What is long straw thatching?
Long straw thatching is a method of thatching that uses specially grown heritage varieties of straw. We grow all our own straw. Our straw crop is harvested using traditional methods thus providing the best raw materials that we can. Long straw thatch should last approximately 30 years but will require a new ridge after approximately 15 to 20 years.
Long straw thatch on a roof is an excellent insulator. It provides a warm cosy feel in the winter but a cool atmosphere in the summer, thus providing the best of both worlds whilst giving the outside appearance of the chocolate box cottage.
